Provides and manages nursing care to patients in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary health team. As medically indicated provides age appropriate, cluster care to premature infants in a minimal stimulation environment. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates all assigned patient care based on the developmental, physical, and psycho-social needs of each patient. Is accountable for patient care given by him/her and by those under his/her supervision. Is responsible for adhering to all standards of nursing practice. Is responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating and coordinating nursing care. Performs all services as they may relate to patient care/treatment with consideration for the age/condition of the patient. Performs additional tasks/activities as assigned. Must have the ability to care for all pediatric patients. Requires basic understanding and ability to utilize the nursing process; requires knowledge, ability and judgment necessary to: * Deliver safe, age appropriate care under critical situations with children who have cardiac, respiratory; gastrointestinal; genitourinary; orthopedic; and neurological dysfunction. * Exercise judgment within the guidelines of the medical plan of care, department policy and licensure practice act. * Assess patients in order to plan, intervene, and evaluate care. * Apply scientific knowledge; use a variety of equipment; and perform multiple technical procedures. * Proactively advocate for patients and consistently educate the family from time of admission until time of dismissal. * Utilize ability to demonstrate and apply the technical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively and safely care for patients/family and to be an effective member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Customer service skills required in working with a variety of staff and physicians. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Level III Neonatal Intensive Care experience within the last two years preferred. Current licensure with the BNE of the state of Texas or a temporary permit with the BNE. BLS certification required upon employment. PALS certification required within 90 days of employment. Nurses with NRP may care for children under 2 years of age.
